the sun shines.
still blue sky.
birds sing
swoop and dive.
A shot rings out.
empty sky.
red stained ground.
yet the sun still shines.
RIP.

On June 20, 2009, at around 6:30 pm, Neda Agha-Soltan was shot and killed in Iran during the unrest following the presidential election. She had got out of a car during a traffic jam because the air conditioning wasn't working and she needed some air on what was a hot summer's day. She was shot by a sniper. She was in her early twenties. Her music teacher was with her in her last moments. Video footage of her death has been seen around the world despite attempts to suppress it.
Among many reports about her was the information that she loved poetry - I wanted her to have some of her own as a small tribute to her short life - so I wrote For Neda.
